Eric Donovan's got his sights set on 2020 being his year.

The unbeaten Irish boxer will return to the ring in Belfast in February as he looks to build on his 11-0 pro record.

He joined us on Tuesday's Off The Ball and confirmed the news. But he also touched on his plans if 2020 doesn't go as planned.

"I think 2020 is going to be my year. It has to be," he said.

"If it's not, I don't think I'm going to be - and I mean this - I'm 35 next year and I'm getting married next July.

Tough Enough

"I'm not going into 2021 if I'm not in a strong position as in mandatory for a European title or a world intercontinental title or a world ranking title, or if I don't have one of them already.

"I don't want to keep running to stand still. Because it's tough enough. You want to be rewarded for your graft."

He plans to sit down with his sponsors next year and "work together on trying to put something together to appeal to some of the top level fighters".

"At least we'll know if we're good enough then [to attract the top opponents]," he added.

Donovan also talked about his most recent fight where his opponent "was more interested in hitting himself".

"He was banging his chest and goading me and banging his gloves. But he wasn't up to much," he added.

The 34-year-old also discussed the logistical issues that he has had to put up with from some of his fights abroad. Those include having to put up with "paying his opponent's purse".
