Limerick native Andy was speaking on Off The Ball and paid tribute to Sheehy.

"Not that I knew him very well, but him being a club-mate of mine, I would have met him. I met him a handful of times," said Andy.

"He was always very quiet - confident and focused - but very, very nice and humble. I can only describe him as a gentleman and a very, very talented boxer. And a huge loss to Limerick and Ireland in the boxing community.

"It's just shocking, shocking news to wake up to this morning. And obviously your thoughts go out to him and his family and to all at St Francis' boxing club."

The 20-year-old Sheehy had also been tipped as a potential Olympic hopeful in the future.

"It's such a shock for everybody. When I woke up this morning to I don't know how many texts about it. Everyone from all over the country and I'm just shocked about it. It's very sad," he said.
