John-Joe Nevin says he will always stay true to his traveller roots.

Speaking as thousands celebrated his Olympic silver medal in Cusack Park yesterday evening Nevin said he is thrilled both the travelling and settled communities are taking pride in his success.

Upwards of 6,000 people paraded through Mullingar last night behind an open-top bus carrying the counties two Olympians John-Joe Nevin and Joseph Murphy.

The team returned home yesterday where they will spend time catching up with family and resting before the official homecoming ceremony in Dublin tomorrow.

In the North Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan will be given an open-top bus parade through Belfast city streets today.

Katie Taylor also received a rapturous welcome in her hometown of Bray in Co. Wicklow yesterday evening.

Speaking to Midlands 103 at the event in Mullingar last night John-Joe says the support means a lot.
