It comes as the Marriage Equality Act took effect from 2.15pm this afternoon.

The final legal hurdle was cleared last week, when Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald signed the commencement order.

Couples can now apply to be married, while those who have already given notice for a civil partnership can choose to marry instead.

For anyone who is wondering how to go about getting married, GLEN have put together an infographic for couples.

It sets out the different pathways lesbian, gay and bisexual couples can take to get married depending on their current relationship status.

For example, some couples will have got married abroad, others will have Irish civil partnerships and some will be applying to get married for the first time.

Senator David Norris told the Pat Kenny Show here on Newstalk he thinks it is too late for him, but his fight for gay rights was never about personal satisfaction.
