An American political analyst has said that Donald Trump’s tweets about Iran are proof of his status as a bully.

Professor Scott Lucas of UCD'S Clinton Institute, has said that Donald Trump’s tweets about Iran are proof of his status as a bully.

Last week, President Trump announced a two ceasefire as US and Iranian negotiators were “very far along” on the road to a “definitive” peace agreement.

Iran has agreed to cease hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, although Tehran has said it exerts “dominion” over the vital waterway.

Scott Lucas, Professor in Political analyst of the Clinton Institute in UCD told The Pat Kenny Show Donald Trump’s recent comments on Iran “reached a new low”.

Speaking on the Pat Kenny Show, Saturday he said the reaction was a ‘real marker of just how angry people are and how frustrated the leader himself had become after the Iranian regime's failure to surrender.

“He is meeting someone that wouldn't concede to him despite the immense damage that the U.S. and Israel had caused”, Mr Lucas said.

While the British and French press were openly disparaging of the comment, Mr Lucas noted the American Press was more reserved in its criticism.

“Trump's own defenders are unabashed”, he told Newstalk

“The media is on both sides where they think if they flag that something is unusual they need to come down and give some sort of rationale about it too.”

Asked whether the 25th amendment could be used to destitute President Trump he said it was unlikely given the ‘President wants to hang on’.

“You have to have a clear majority of his cabinet who actually have to stand up to him and tell the president he can no longer carry on the job.

“If they can do that, then you can go through the process of succession where you go to the vice president, as the person who takes over while the president is pushed aside.

“The problem with the 25th amendment is that if it is contested by the President himself, you would need two-thirds majority of the Senate and the House to really get rid of him which is unlikely to be forthcoming with the Republicans.”

He noted that very few Republicans dare speak out against the president.

Asked about First Lady Melania Trump’s statement about the nature of her relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, Mr Lucas said it was “very dramatic and unprecedented.”

“It’s interesting because she sets herself at a distance from her husband.

“First and foremost, she wants to protect herself.

“There is no evidence to counter her claims that, you know, she met Jeffrey Epstein through her husband in 2000.”

Mr Lucas claimed that while the first Lady claimed her correspondence with both Epstein and his wife Ghislaine Maxwell were simply courteous their tone implied otherwise.
