In the run-up to Christmas, our tech correspondent Jess Kelly has been testing out every type of product to see which is really worth your cash. Here's what she recommends.

Whereas once upon a time, the GHD was the top beauty tech device worth having, Jess told The Pat Kenny Show that the L'oreal Steam Pod is the piece of kit currently on everyone's radar.

"This is a notions hair straightener," she told Pat.

"I'm always intrigued by beauty tech because sometimes it can be very expensive and you wonder is it worth the money. I was playing around with this steam pod and it is one you actually pour water into and the steam does the job. So, you're not actually singeing or burning your hair in any way, shape or form.

"It's also for anyone who has dyed your hair as it doesn't strip colour or nutrients at all. If you have someone who straightens their hair and is concerned about the damage done, this is a great product."

Next up is the holy grail of juicing products, the Nutribullet Starter Kit.

"This is one of those products that was so expensive a few years ago. Now you can get your hands on the Nutribullet starter kit which includes a blender and cup for just €50. The blade power is so powerful you can use it for all kinds of everything including baby food or soups.

"Gaming chairs are incredibly comfortable for anyone working from home," Jess continued.

"This was the first thing bought in my house during the first lockdown. I think anyone who has been at home this year has realised that sitting in kitchen table chairs for eight-to-ten hours a day isn't all that good for your back. I know I've really come to appreciate the value of a good chair in recent months."

As referenced by Jonathon Healy in the previous report, toy shortages happen every year in the run-up to Christmas. This year, it's all about the PlayStation 5 which was sold out in some fifteen minutes in stores across the globe. And the shortages don't just limit themselves to children. The Apple iPhone 12 is the hot product this year for anyone interested in tech – however, it seems that stock is in short supply.

"The preorders of the iPhone Pro all sold out as far as I'm aware so hopeful buyers are being told they mightn't get their device until after Christmas which is unfortunate. I do think the Mini is still in stock.

"Finally, one of the best investments you can make either for yourself or somebody you love this Christmas is The HP 27fw Full HD 27" IPS LCD Monitor," she said.

"If you know somebody who is going to be spending a lot of time at their computer at home, be that for work or photo editing or whatever, the HP fw series is stunning."
