On the final ‘Talking History’ before Christmas, Patrick will be revisiting two of his favourite discussions from the past 12 months.

First, the life and legacy of the great Dutch humanist Desiderius Erasmus will be addressed. Erasmus came to fame during the renaissance period and is often referred to as ‘Prince of the Humanists.’ His fame endures today, as his many writings remain influential, such as ‘On Free Will’ and ‘In Praise of Folly.’

Was Erasmus one of the defining voices of the renaissance period? And what is his legacy today?

Join Patrick this Sunday evening, at 7pm, as he reflects on this discussion.

Then in part two, we will be changing gears and viewing the Battle of Kursk, often described as the greatest tank battle in history.

This engagement saw the clash of the German and Soviet forces during World War II. This battle is considered one of the key turning points in the Allied campaign against Nazi Germany, as the march of Hitler was stemmed and the tide began to turn on the Eastern Front.

Does this battle deserve its notable reputation? And how crucial was this encounter in the context of the Second World War?

Listen in to ‘Talking History’, this Sunday evening at 7pm, as Patrick and his panel address these issues and much more besides.
