The Martin Scorsese film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as real-life criminal stockbroker Jordan Belfort, is nominated for a total of five Academy Awards.
And according to Deadline, users on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter had already chosen a clear favourite days before the ceremony.
The outlet reports social media marketing and analytics company RelishMix looked at data from 40 million users leading up to Hollywood’s biggest night.
The company focused on the nine Best Picture nominees during the Academy’s voting period, from January 16 to February 25, and found that Wolf scored more than 12.3 million points of engagement, including video re-posts and shares.
Coming in second place was David O. Russell’s American Hustle, with just over eight million.
Captain Phillips placed third, followed by 12 Years A Slave, Gravity, The Dallas Buyers Club, Nebraska, Her and Philomena, respectively.
In addition to the Best Picture nod, Wolf is also nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Jonah Hill), Best Directing and Best Adapted Screenplay.
American Hustle and Gravity dominate the nominations with 10 apiece.
12 Years a Slave also did well with nine nominations
The Oscars will take place Sunday evening at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, with Ellen DeGeneres hosting proceedings for the second time. She also did the honours for the 79th Academy Awards in 2007.
