Serena Williams has won her 16^th grand Slam title with a straight sets win over Maria Sharapova in the final of the French Open at Rolland Garros.

Williams but in a display of near perfection as she brushed aside a reigning champion who played excellent tennis, but nothing that could put a halt to the march of Williams.

It was just the second time Williams won the French Open, 11 years after her first triumph.
