A Wicklow man who became an internet sensation after donning tennis star Kim Clijsters’ skirt at Wimbledon is auctioning it for charity.

Clijsters showed no mercy to 46-year-old Chris Quinn on Friday after he shouted out advice on her serving style.

She pulled the Greystones Lawn Tennis club captain out on to the court to show the world what he could do – but it was his dress code violation that stole the show.

After Clijsters’ realised his blue shorts and t-shirt attire were in breach of the strict All-England Tennis Club dress code, she squeezed him into her spare skirt and lined him up to face her serve.

Mr Quinn did manage a return of sorts - although he was unable to take a point off the Belgian - despite her struggles with the giggles:

The Wicklow man has now decided to put his new-found fame to good use - and is auctioning the skirt off for charity.

He has picked the Gavin Glynn Foundation as his charity of choice - a move that has delighted the charity's director John Glynn:

“I think it is amazing, we are absolutely delighted that he came to us first,” he said.

“He rang us yesterday - through a friend he got my number and rang and said, ‘you have probably seen the video we would love to auction it for the Gavin Glynn Foundation, is that ok?’ and we were absolutely delighted.

“It is great publicity for our foundation.”

The charity provides assistance to families who have to travel to other countries to access treatments for their children.

Bidding for the skirt will be open at the Gavin Glynn Foundation website for the next 11 days.
