It is often said that retaining a title is often more difficult than winning it in the first place.
Reigning SSE Airtricity League champions St Pats are finding that to be true at the moment as they make an unconvincing start to the new season.
We were joined by Roddy and Stuey tonight and the latter sees signs of concern at Richmond Park.
"Their form at the moment is up and down. Even when it's up, it's not that great. They didn't play that well against [Shamrock] Rovers even though they won the game. They got a very fortuitous penalty which was never a penalty and never a sending off. They changed things around for last night [against Sligo in the Setanta Cup] and they ended up on the wrong side of a 5 - 1 hammering at home which is their worst home defeat since 1999," said Stuey who has retained league titles at Shelbourne and explained why mentality is the key reason why teams either win or fail to retain league titles. He does not think that is present at Pats at the moment.
Roddy agrees that mentality is key but also feels that other teams are coming down hard on Pats more patient style of play.
He also believes league leaders Dundalk will run out of steam in the title run in.
The lads also addressed the issue of fixture congestion which was brought up by Rovers boss Trevor Croly. Roddy and Stuey agree with him and would like to see the season extended by a couple of weeks to give teams more breathing space.
