Westmeath will face either Dublin or Kildare after turning around an 8 point deficit to claim their first championship victory over neighbours Meath.

Tom Cribbin's charges came into the game having never beaten the 'Royals' and things didn't look too good for the lake County at the end of the first half.

Meath started the game at a ferocious pace with Eamon Wallace, a late inclusion, causing all sorts of problems. Meath opened up a seven point lead before Westmeath's Kieran Martin scored a goal to keep Westmeath alive at least. That did not deter Meath however as two goals from Bryan McMahon opening up a 10 point lead. Westmeath got a few more scores before the end of the half but they still trailed by 7 at the break.

Westmeath threw away their inhibitions in the second half and goals from john Heslin and Kieran Martin, Both of which had been fantastic all day, platformed Westmeath into the lead in the closing minutes. From seven points down Westmeath found themselves ahead by four at the final whistle.

A great day for Westmeath as they march on to the final but Shane O'Dowd's Meath now find themselves in the qualifiers.
