Sunderland have won their appeal against Wes Brown's sending-off during last Saturday's defeat to Stoke.

The former England defender was shown a straight red for a tackle on Charlie Adam, but the FA's disciplinary committee has cleared Brown, and scrapped his three-match ban.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet was incensed by the controversial decision at the time but was grateful for the rescinding of the ban.

"It was hugely frustrating but we accept officials are only human and like everyone, they can make mistakes. Today goes some way to rectifying the error and we are delighted to have Wes available for Saturday's game at Aston Villa," he said.

However, Crystal Palace have lost their appeal against Yannick Bolasie's dismissal against Hull.

The Eagles player was shown a straight red for a challenge on Hull's Jake Livermore.
