For the first time in the club's history, Wexford Youths will dine at Irish football's top table after winning the SSE Airtricity First Division in front of a bumper 1,300 person crowd at Ferrycarrig Park.

Manager, Shane Keegan joined Joe and Stuey Byrne for tonight's League of Ireland segment and expressed his delight at the achievements of the team.

"Yeah, it's brilliant Joe to be honest with you" he began, "I've been there for four years myself and we've been building steadily ever since."

After taking over the reigns at the age of 29, Keegan explained that there was somewhat of a steep learning curve to the job, but that he never felt out of his depth.

"I had had a couple of years at what would have been the third division of Irish football and Mick [Wallace] took a bit of a gamble bringing me in at the start.

"I had gotten into the coaching young enough and by that age I was probably on my way to the UEFA A-Badge, so I didn't feel too out of my depth."

The crowd which saw the side win promotion is one he would like to see every week in the ground, considering that they tend to only get around 200 people down for regular league games.

"We'd be hoping to have another crowd in this Friday night when we get the trophy and hopefully we can put on another good performance for them.

In terms of the squad, he expressed his delight at working with the group of payers this year and is hopeful to keep that unity for the coming season.

"It's a bit of a balancing act, any manager who has had a good season is going to praise the unity of the squad and the spirit and all that. I think we've had a tremendous group spirit and bond throughout the season.

"The challenge now is adding three or four names to that without interfering with the quality and unity we've got in the squad already."
