Westmeath made history yesterday afternoon, defeating Meath for the first time in Championship history. The Lakesiders came from ten points behind to win by four points courtesy of a dominant second half display. It finished 3-19 to 2-18 in Croke Park.

John Connellan scored two points in the win and spoke to Off the Ball's Dave McIntyre after the semi-final. 

"We have had this incredible self belief among our group". Connellan said, but he also added that the occasion got the the team in the first half.

The Athlone native is under no illusions about the task that lies ahead and knows the performance against Meath will have to be improved upon. "We know its not going to be enough for the Dubs in the Leinster final". 

Despite going into the final as underdogs, Connellan told Dave that Tom Cribbin's side will prepare for the final with the intention of beating Dublin. "No team goes into a Leinster final with any other intention than to win it."

The final takes place on July 12th.
