Bubba Watson remains at the front of the pack at the Masters, but on Saturday the former champion’s lead was cut from 4 to a tie with 20 year old Majors debutant Jordan Spieth. The pair lead a group of 8 within 3 shots of the lead, while another 4 players are 1 back on 1 under.
Watson laboured with a misfiring putter to hit 74 yesterday, while Spieth carded 70 to pull himself alongside the 2012 champion on 5 under.
Matt Kuchar hit 68 to move to 4 under, while Sweden’s Jonas Blixt also sits closely behind the leading pair, on 4 under after a 71 yesterday.
Miguel Angel Jimenez played the round of the tournament thus far with a 66 moving him to 3 under overall, alongside Rickie Fowler in a tie for third.
Rory McIlroy’s Masters got marginally better yesterday with a 71 leaving him on 3 over for the tournament. Birdies on 3 of the final 4 holes gave McIlroy a welcome respite from what had been a tough round, scoring lower than his marker, 51 year old amateur Jeff Knox, the Augusta National’s club champion.
Darren Clarke scored a 1 over 73 yesterday to drop to 5 over for the tournament.
