Ireland captain Robbie Keane has admitted that he is likely to miss the Euro 2016 opener against Sweden on June 13th.

The striker is working his way back to fitness after a calf injury which ruled him out of the recent pre-tournament friendlies and admits that he is in race against time to be fit for action, despite being named in the 23-man tournament squad.

"Lucky for me, it's not as bad as I first thought. They're saying a couple of weeks which would get me for the Sweden game but if I miss that one [then I'll be] ready for the second game, so it's bad news but it could have been a lot worse," he told FAI TV.

After naming the squad on Tuesday, manager Martin O'Neill had also suggested that the Sweden game could be missed by Keane with the second group game against Belgium in Bordeaux a more likely return date.

Meanwhile, Jon Walters also missed training today because of a calf injury.
