At the start of the season, not many people would have thought that the Washington Redskins would be the team claiming glory in the NFC East, but after a win against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, they're headed to the playoffs.

The team was lead by Kirk Cousins, who threw for 365 yards and four touchdowns, and in the process blew away all the preseason predictions about there being trouble brewing for Jay Gruden's side.

The breakdown of the relationship between Gruden and Robert Griffin III had been much talked about in the run up to the start of the season, and not many people held out hope for big performances from Kirk Cousins, who had proven before that he had a tendency to turn the ball over.

He's proven those doubters wrong with a string of brilliant showings, featuring only three interceptions in his last nine games, and there's now talk that he will be rewarded with a big contract from the team. Judging by the hug he gave team president Bruce Allen, that's probably a good bet.

He had been set to become a free agent, but according to ESPN, one member of the organisation stated that Cousins "will be taken care of".

This divisional win means that they will get to host a playoff game, and the most likely opponent at the moment looks to be the Seattle Seahawks.

Something tells us that his "you like that" chant might come back to haunt him before the season is over, though.
