Unsurprisingly for a circuit named after the late, great maverick Gilles Villeneuve, the Canadian Grand Prix is one of the most exciting on the calendar and not just because of a design that encourages overtaking.

It has more to do with the challenges it poses to drivers, namely the famous Wall of Champions at the exit of the final chicane which earned its name because it has caught out some of the world's greatest drivers, F1 champs chief among them.

In a single race in 1999, three World Champions were caught out by the famous wall that reads 'Welcome to Quebec' with Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher and Gilles' son Jacques all seeing their races ended just before the main straight.

First Hill struck the barrier which is ominously close to the road, leaving little room for error, before Schumacher and Villeneuve also crashed in the same spot. Former F1 driver Ricardo Zonta also crashed out there in the same race.

Watch all four incidents below:

In 2005, future World Champion Jenson Button was unable to avoid the famous wall while chasing a podium place.

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel is another talented driver that has also failed to successfully negotiate the exit to that final chicane unblemished.

The triple world champ was typically fortunate in 2011 as his crash took place in practice rather than in the race.
