If you haven't watched Gravity yet, you should probably stop reading / watching now and make sure to experience the visual feast while it's still in the cinema.
Still here? Good, and we're going to assume you've watched the film. You'll recall the scene in the film where Sandra Bullock, alone in her barely functioning Soyuz craft, manages to send a distress call. Unfortunately for her, it's picked up by someone without a word of English, and the communication mostly consists of repeated phrases, barking dogs and crying babies, with neither participant understanding the other (although has a dramatic impact on Bullock's Dr. Stone).
It turns out the conversation was with an Inuit fisherman, and a short film released online this week shows that other side of the story. Aningaaq was directed by Jonás Cuaron - the younger brother of Gravity director Alfonso. The two siblings co-wrote the script for the main film, and Jonás was granted to opportunity to integrate the audio of his short into the full blockbuster.
Aningaaq has been released online via The Hollywood Reporter, and it proves an intriguing, atmospheric 'extra' feature, as well as a pleasant stand-alone work. Check it out below:
