Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, two of Martin Scorsese’s movie muses, will finally appear in a film with the director – a lavish $70m (€60m) advert for a Chinese casino.
Also featuring Brad Pitt (albeit only as a set of still images plastered on the wall), The Audition is a special short filmed commissioned to publicise the launch of the $3.2bn (€2.7bn) Studio City resort, a no-expense-spared casino in the tax haven city of Macau.
The short, directed by Brett Ratner (X-Men 3, Rush Hour), sees Scorsese invite his two most cherished collaborators to the casino to audition for the lead role in an upcoming movie.
The full short is scheduled for release in the summer, when the casino complex, and its sister one in Manila in the Philippines, is opened to the high-rolling public.
Why would DiCaprio, De Niro and Scorsese appear is the advert? SlashFilm reports they each made a cool $10m (€8.5m) for their performances.
