The ball - now at working prototype stage - contains several separate video cameras, with multiple lenses used to provide a full 360 degree view. The separate clips are then stiched together to provide one single, watchable video.

If this sounds like a nightmare for those who already suffer from motion sickness and a phobia of shaky cam, no need to fear: the Squito uses orientation sensors and other stablisation technology to make sure the cameras capture steady images that shouldn't cause too many headaches. It can also be used as a still camera, offering a new way to shoot those epic panorama shots.

As well as its uses as a consumer product, creator Steve Hollinger is suggesting the device could be used for reconnaisance, 3D mapping and search & rescue purposes.

However, everybody knows that such an invention is first and foremost the future of sports broadcasting. At only the size of a tennis ball, a couple of weight adjustments and Squito will make for some exciting Wimbeldon instant replays.
