There's no shortage of extraordinarily detailed Microsoft Paint drawings out there to show what can be achieved using simple tools. Tablets, meanwhile, have given digital artists even more scope to create 'handmade' and detailed virtual paintings. But could they achieve full photorealism?
In this video from Kyle Lambert, we see a few general brushstrokes rapidly transform into an exact copy of a photograph of Morgan Freeman, seemingly using only an iPad and a Paint-like application. The end product is effectively indistinguishable from the real thing. The video explains the project took over 200 hours and required almost 300,000 individual brushstrokes.
However, some commentators have expressed doubts about the video's genuineness, suggesting it was reverse engineered from photo to blank slate. Is it a remarkable example of tablet art or a cheeky albeit impressive fake? Check out the video and decide for yourself:
