Since he admitted to smoking crack cocaine, Toronto mayor Rob Ford has faced one publicity disaster after another, alongside the continued police investigations into his activities. A video alleging to show Ford violently ranting surfaced, he made a crude reference to oral sex in front of reporters, and on Monday he accidentally knocked over a female councillor. Now, after having his political powers severely restricted by the city council, the politician has had his new TV show cancelled.

Ford Nation was a political talk show hosted by Ford and his brother Doug. The first episode aired on Monday night and attracted an impressive 155,000 viewers according to the Globe and Mail: a huge viewership for a small station that usually only attracts an average of 16-17,000 viewers a minute. Sun News Networks, however, didn't even wait 24 hours to cancel it, despite a representative's claim that "it’s by far the most successful thing, from an audience perspective, the network has ever done." The network is citing high costs as a reason for the show's immediate cancellation.

The news follows the earlier cancellation of Ford's weekly radio show. The Globe and Mail suggests that Sun News' decision to give Rob Ford a TV show was a controversial one with advertisers and even some members of the network's staff.

The one episode of Ford Nation saw the mayor directly address many of the allegations he's facing. The Guardian has posted a video of some clips from the programme.
