If there was a crisis at Old Trafford under David Moyes then it appears to have passed, with Arsenal’s runaway start to the Premier League brought to a sudden halt by Robin Van Persie and Manchester United.
Van Persie scored with a header – which seemed to cannon rather fortuitously off the striker’s shoulder – from a Wayne Rooney corner just before the half hour mark.
Arsenal were hampered by the loss of Tomas Rosicky and Per Mertesacker before the game, with both suffering from illness and unable to play.
The win lifts United to 5th, just 5 points behind Arsenal and now above rivals Manchester City. The Gunners meanwhile miss the chance to go 5 clear of Liverpool but remain top of the table.
In the other game this evening Swansea came back from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 with Stoke City at the Liberty Stadium. Jonathan Walters and Stephen Ireland . Wilfried Bony got two and Nathan Dyer another as Swansea came back from 2 down to lead heading into the final stages of the game. A stoppage time penalty from Charlie Adam levelled the game again and shared the spoils.
