Manchester United are moving closer to completing the signing of Italian international defender Matteo Darmian.

Manager Louis van Gaal says the Torino player is on his way to Manchester for a medical ahead of the transfer.

Asked about the rumoured move, Van Gaal said: "I've read that in the papers and it's true."

He also confirmed that a medical is taking place.
