South African flanker Marcell Coetzee has recovered from a serious knee injury and is ready to help Ulster as they attempt to win domestic silverware.

The Springbok, who has made 28 appearances for his national side, has yet to play for his new team.

He is due to make his long awaited debut this weekend against Edinburgh in the Guinness PRO12 Championship.

Speaking ahead of his first appearance, Ulster Director of Rugby, Les Kiss, said: "It's like a new signing. Marcell's enthusiasm has been fantastic and his approach to training and preparation is first class.

"It's important for him to have a good solid game but I don't think we'll expect everything from him this weekend, he needs to just get hands on the ball, get his shoulder into a tackle and start to feel the game again.

"I think we'll see some good things but we'll see better things the more he plays," he added.

Ulster go into the match on a poor run of form and have already been eliminated from European competition.  They currently sit in sixth place - seven points behind fifth place Scarlets although the northern province have a match in hand.
