UEFA have entered into discussions about the possibility of creating a third European club tournament.

Folllowing a meeting of all 54 member countries today, the European football governing body is to look into the creation of a tournament that could be reserved for teams from smaller countries, which never participate in the group stages of the Europa League or the Champions League.

The new competition will not be introduced until 2018 at the earliest, when the current round of TV rights deals expire.
