The final two quarter finals of the Women's World Cup take place tonight as four teams look to join Germany and the United States in the semi finals.

World Champions Japan play Australia at 9pm in Edmonton. The Australians shocked Brazil in the Round of 16 and will be looking to reach the last four for the first time in their history. Japan, who shocked the United States four years ago to win the title have only conceded twice in the tournament. Both of those goals came in added time at the end of the game when they were already leading 2-0.

England are looking to reach the semi finals for the first time. After overcoming Norway in the last round, Mark Sampson's side face hosts Canada tonight. The game take place in Vancouver at 12.30am as the hosts look to continue their run towards the final. If England lose tonight it will be their third consecutive exit at the quarter final stages.

Last night, Germany overcame France in a penalty shootout in Montreal. The French took the lead through Louisa Necib after an hour and looked to be on course to reach the semi finals before Celia Sasic equalised in the last five minutes from the penalty spot. Gaetane Thany missed an excellent chance in extra time for France before the game went to a penalty shoot out. The first nine penalties were scored before France's Claire Lavogez had her penalty saved as the Germans advanced 5-4.

The Germans will now face the United States in the semi finals in Montreal. The US defeated China in their quarter final in Ottawa. Carli Lloyd scored for America as they remain unbeaten in the tournament.

The final will take place next Sunday night in Vancouver.
