Liverpool legend Ronnie Moran has died at the age of 83, following a short illness.

Moran made 379 appearances for Liverpool between 1952 and 1966 after first arriving as a part-time player in 1949.

He formally retired as a player during the 1968-69 season, before becoming part of the Anfield 'Boot Room' alongside Bill Shankly, Joe Fagan, Bob Paisley and Reuben Bennett.

He spent over 30 years on the club's coaching staff and was the club's longest-serving employee after retiring in 1999. He was involved in winning some 44 trophies with the club.

Moran stepped in as caretaker manager at the club on two occasions - following Kenny Dalglish's resignation in 1991 and after Graeme Souness underwent heart surgery in 1992.

He suffered from vascular dementia in later years.

Fellow Liverpool stalwarts are paying tribute to Moran on social media this morning.
