The transfer window is still open, but with the start of the season fast approaching, a number of clubs are still looking tos igna  few key deals to give their season a boost.

Angel Di Maria's move to Paris Saint-Germain is all but complete, however it seems that manager Louis Van Gaal is not happy with the Argentine and has fined him £360,000 for not showing up on the team's preseason tour to the US. He's also looking to make hims sweat and holding out on finalising the deal, but The Daily Mail report that once it's complete, the club will use some of the £45 million transfer fee to get Pedro from Barcelona.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has been trying his best to get Everton and Ireland midfielder James McCarthy for most of the transfer window, but given that his biggest fan is his current manager Roberto Martinez, there is very little chance that the Irishman will be moving to London. Spurs are now looking to complete a move for Sven Bender of Borussia Dortmund, as Pochettino is desperate to get a holding midfielder in before the start of the season. They are also chasing Clinton N’Jie of Lyon, but have been told that they must fork out at least £14 million.

Chelsea are closing in on a deal for 21-year-old defender Rahman Baba from Augsburg, for a fee that's believed to be somewhere between £17.5 and £20 million.

After a number of departures this summers, Aston Villa are trying to make a few signings in key positions. According to The Daily Mail, they have approached West Brom with a £1 million offer for Joleon Lescott, although the club are unwilling to sell. Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov cut short his holiday to travel to Birmingham late last week and complete his move to Villa however, so they look to have landed at least one of their targets.

In other news, Anthony Stokes will be in the squad for Celtic's season opener today, but has been told that his time at the club is over as both Sheffield Wednesday and Hull are both hoping to sign him. Italian legend Gianfraqnco Zola has urged Mario Balotelli to quit Liverpool and rescue his career by going to...Qatar. Coincidentally, Zola is taking over at Al-Arabi having left Cagliari last season. Xherdan Shaqiri has been told that he has to complete his move to Stoke from Inter Milan, after the two clubs agreed a fee for him last month, while Liverpool will have to wait until next week to find out if their £15 million bid for Denis Cheryshev is going to be accepted.
