Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador has been ruled out of the Rio Olympics.

He had to withdraw from the Tour de France at the weekend after nine stages due to the effects of two falls.

Scans show the two-time Tour winner has three leg fractures.

As a result of, he says that he is "practically ruled out" of next months' Games in Rio. 

"Regarding the Olympics, it is practically impossible. The question is not whether I have recovered, but if I can participate in top condition. At first glance, it looks like that will not be possible. It's a shame, because I think I could have done well on the course," he commented.
