Tottenham have reportedly agreed to shell out €30 million for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.
Spurs and Liverpool were linked to the Spain international, but the former had failed with a bid of €26 million plus add-ons, as Valencia sought a straight cash deal.
The severly cash-strapped club did not budge from their €30 million valuation of the 28-year-old.
Last season he netted 24 league goals for Los Che to put him fifth in the race for the Pichichi (La Liga top scorer award).
However, Gareth Bale's Spurs future is said to be unrelated to a potential deal for Soldado. Real Madrid are believed to have offered a world record fee, while some reports suggest Bale wants Tottenham to consider the offer.
But Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas did confirm that contract talks have started between the club and player's agent.
