Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could pay the price for the club's worst start to a top-flight season in 30 years.

United's 1-0 defeat away to Newcastle on Sunday left Solskjaer's side 12th in the Premier League after eight games.

The Norweigan could do no wrong when he took over from Jose Mourinho last December but since he was appointed permanently on March 28th, United have taken just 17 points in 16 league games.

Solskjaer's next game is at home to Liverpool after the international break and several reports say the 46-year-old could be shown the exit door if United lose to Liverpool in a fortnight.

Mourinho's last game in charge of United ended in a 3-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield last December.

United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward publicly backed Solskjaer a few weeks ago but the team's form shows no sign of improving any time soon.

The Sun claims he fears the sack due to their dismal start. Solskjaer has been without the likes of Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial for a few weeks due to injury and he won't be able to add to his squad until January.

The United board may not have the patience to wait until the next transfer window, especially if results don't improve drastically.
