Golf legend Tiger Woods says he is getting "professional help" to manage medications after he was arrested last month on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police found Woods asleep behind the wheel with the engine running on the side of a Florida road and conducted a series of sobriety tests on the 14-time major winner before placing him under arrest.

A breath test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.00% and in a statement Woods, 41, said his condition had been caused by the effects of prescription medicines.

In a statement on Twitter says he will be getting help to better regulate his in-take.

"I'm currently receiving professional help to manage my medications and the ways that I deal with back pain and a sleep disorder," he said.

"I want to thank everyone for the amazing outpouring of support and understanding, especially the fans and players on tour."

His arraignment in Palm Beach County court on a DUI charge is scheduled for July 5th.
