Tiger Woods is in contention for victory at the Quicken Loans National tournament, sitting just one shot off the lead.

The former World No 1 recorded a round of 66 in Virginia to sit on 8-under, just behind joint leaders David Lingmerth and  yo Ishikawa.

Woods is in an eight person tie for second.

Elsewhere, Michael Hoey is into the the last-16 of the inaugural Paul Lawrie Matchplay.

The Ulsterman won three of the first five holes of his last-32 match against Kristoffer Broberg to claim a comfortable 5&4 win over the Swede in Aberdeen.

He will now face Grégory Havret of France in tomorrow's last-16 matches.

 

At the Madeira Islands Open, Kevin Phelan has carded another round of 69 today.

It has left him on 6-under par heading into the weekend, five shots behind the leaders, Sam Walker and Pontus Widegren.

Ruaidhrí McGee finished just inside the cut on 2-under par.
