As the world found out this morning, Manchester United beat the likes of Liverpool to the signing of promising Dutch talent Memphis Depay.
Goal.com's Dutch football writer Stefan Coerts joined us on Off The Ball to talk about the perceptions of the player on and off the pitch.
"There is a bit of a bad boy vibe around him. There is a body full of tattoos, he's got a bit of a cocky attitude at first sight when you don't really know him and he is the type of player who is quite professional but outside the game he also enjoys the glamour around it. He's the type of player who enjoys fashion, music, regularly changes his haircut," said Coerts, who also spoke about his maturation process.
"He has quite an interesting past. He's 21 now and only five years ago when Fred Rutten gave him the chance at PSV to show what he can do, there was quite a funny moment there when Rutten told him that he had to make a choice between whether he wanted to be a football player or the member of a rap group because he had been singing as well on a regular basis as part of a rap group called Rotterdam Airlines."
Coerts also noted some stylistic comparisons with ex-Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo.
"They both enjoy coming inside from the left-wing and unleashing shots with their right foot," he said.
