Cork manager Jimmy Barry Murphy says his side "just weren't good enough" in yesterday's All Ireland quarter final defeat to Galway in Thurles.

2-28 to 0-22 the final score with goals coming from Johnathan Glynn and debutaunt Conor Whelan while Cathal Manninon grabbed seven points.

Despite amassing more than 20 wides in the match, Galway ran out comfortable 12-point winners.

The Tribesmen will now meet Tipperary in the semi-final, while Waterford will take on Kilkenny after their win over Dublin .

2-21 to 1-19 the final score with Shane Bennett and Maurice Shanahan getting the goals for the Deise, Shanahan ended the game with a total of 1-12.

 

RUGBY

Leo Cullen is set to be appointed Leinster rugby head coach.

The news came yesterday that the former captain will fill the vacancy left after Matt O'Connor left the club at the end of May, despite the province narrowly missing out on a place in the Champions Cup final, according to a report in the Sunday Times.

In the Airtricity league Premier division, Dundalk remain 6 points clear at the top following a 1-1 draw with Cork City yesterday in Oriel park.

Manchester United have signed goalkeeper Sergio Romero on a free transfer.

The Argentinian has agreed a three-year contract at Old Trafford - describing the move as 'a dream come true'.

The 28-year-old former Sampdoria keeper previously worked with United boss Louis van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar.

 

CYCLING

Chris Froome became the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France twice last night.

Froome rode to victory in Paris, going into the final day almost assured of victory.

Nairo Quintana had tried to reduce Froome's lead on Saturday, but his assault was't enough to deny the 2013 champion a lead that all but guaranteed him victory.
