Listen to Thursday Night Football with John Giles abiove

24 hours on, John Giles has not changed his mind about calling Robin Van Persie a "prat" on TV last night. In fact, he does not think that word is strong enough to describe a player who he feels is not pulling his weight under the David Moyes regime.

He told Ger: "If I hadn't been on television, it would have been a stronger word. I thought his performance in the Champions League last night was dreadful. I don't think he tried at all and then to make the comments that he did afterwards which implied very clearly that his colleagues are not doing their stuff..."

John said it's "touch and go" whether he would keep Van Persie if he was Moyes. He also threw a few other names on the list of players who should depart including Rio Ferdinand, Tom Cleverley, Michael Carrick and Nani.

Patrice Evra and Ashley Young were also "touch and go".

He would also like to see Rooney moved into midfield temporarily alongside Juan Mata, with Adnan Januzaj on the left wing and Antonio Valencia on the right and Shinji Kagawa in the hole. In the long-term, John would prefer to see Chris Smalling and Phil Jones as the centre-back pairing.

John also imparted his experience of being at a club where a manager left after a long period in charge.

Don Revie left Leeds in 1974 after 13 years in charge and was replaced by the outspoken Brian Clough who famously lasted just 44 days after poor results and tensions with the players.

While John branded Clough as "arrogant", he did recognize the "genius" of the former Nottingham Forest and Derby County boss.

But John also told us about the non-relationship between himself and Clough.

"I think he thought that I was a troublemaker because I was recommended for the job and I didn't get it. So there was no relationship there at all," said John.

"I didn't get on with him but I think Clough was a genius with what he did at Derby and Nottingham Forest. Maybe had he given it time at Leeds, he could have had the players eating out of his hand."
