Sam Simon, one of the original developers of The Simpsons, said he will leave his entire multi-million dollar fortune to charity after his death.
Simon, 58, who developed The Simpsons in 1989 with creator Matt Groening and producer James L. Brooks was recently diagnosed with stage-4 colon cancer.
The writer-producer admitted he doesn’t even know how much money he has any more; he earns “tens of millions” in The Simpsons royalties every year.
Unmarried and without children, Simon is also a philanthropist, having founded the Sam Simon Foundation for starving people and animals and donating large sums to PETA, Save The Children and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
Simon told The Hollywood Reporter that “people really begrudge giving”.
“In New York, it’s like that. A lot of charities spend a million dollars on a fundraiser to make $15,000. It’s a social swirl. They do some great stuff and then — it’s called mission drift. It becomes more about the parties.”
Simon has also worked for such TV series as Friends and Anger Management.
