When it comes to the Premier League, it might be worth giving the bookies a wide berth this season, such is the unpredictability of the current campaign.
No team has been able to give proof that they can stretch their legs and sprint for May's finish line.
Pat Nevin was on Off The Ball tonight and like everyone, was at a loss when it came to predicting how this title race will go.
"I don't know what the right word is. I think confusing is as good a word as any. If you're a betting man, do not bet on the Premier League this season. It's all over the place but I really like it."
Starting with Manchester City who have a woeful away record and looked like a "shambles" against Sunderland according to Nevin, the former Chelsea and Everton man questioned the team's work-rate - Alvaro Negredo in particular whose performance Nevin branded as "inadequate". He also feels Chelsea are also lacking something in that regard at the moment.
But he also believes that counter-attacking teams are in a bit of a muddle at the moment, just because there are so many teams playing that style and cancelling each other out.
"If you're setting up as a counter-attacking team and you're up against another counter-attacking team, there is a serious confusion. I noticed that with one or two of the sides, Chelsea more than anyone else. They've not got any space to break into when the other team is sitting back and they seem to run out of ideas.
"In times gone past Chelsea were trying to copy the likes of Barcelona and move the ball quickly but not at the pace of Mourinho. With Mata, Oscar and Hazard, they would pick their way through. But teams are getting so good at stopping that."
Nevin also praised David Moyes' tactical choices against Arsenal and suggested Phil Jones and not Marouane Fellaini as the most suitable long-term partner for Michael Carrick in the engine room.
"Originally Moyes wanted Fellaini in there but as I've said before, that's not Fellaini's best position. Jones is a fantastic footballer but there will come a time where they will have to find the right place for him. Carrick can be the one who sits but Jones can be the one that breaks forward from there. He's quite capable of doing that even though by trade and by nature, he is defensive."
