A few inches lower and Mauricio Pinilla would have sensationally taken Chile into the World Cup quarter finals at the expense of hosts Brazil.

But alas, his last-minute extra time shot cannoned off the crossbar, meaning the biggest headline involving the Chilean striker was the accusation that a Brazilian official punched him in the tunnel.

However, it's Brazil that were somewhat punch drunk for passages of the exciting last-16 encounter. And one area that will give manager Luiz Felipe Scolari nightmares, is the gaping wound that Chile picked at in the channel between the undisciplined defensive pair of Marcelo and David Luiz.

Significantly Chile's goal by Alexis Sanchez came after a Brazil error in that zone and that will be a cause of concern for Scolari as the tension cranks up, especially with the shield provided by Luiz Gustavo suspended against Colombia.
