A bad night for Juventus fans got even worse when a stampede broke out in a square packed with fans after firecrackers were let off.

Fans had gathered in the San Carlo Square to enjoy the Champions League final between Juventus and Real Madrid in Cardiff.

However, as the match progressed, it was obvious the trophy was going to remain in the Spanish capital.

With about 10 minutes remaining in the match, loud firecrackers caused confusion in the crowd and a horrific stampede broke out which injured up to 1,000 people.

The BBC are reporting that a seven-year-old boy is in a serious condition with chest and head injuries.

Real Madrid went on to win their 12th European Cup, beating the Italian champions 4-1 in an exciting match in the Welsh capital.
