South Africa returned to business as usual as they crushed USA by 64 points this evening, with Bryan Habana's hat-trick to see him match Jonah Lomu's  15-try Rugby World Cup record.

The Springboks never really had to move through the gears as they inflicted the heaviest defeat of this world cup campaign.

Damian de Allende picked up South Africa's first try of the afternoon after a mistake from Duane Vermeulen after the number eight spilled the ball and Schalk Burger fed de Allende crossed to set the tone for the evening.

South Africa forced a penalty try after storming through an American scrum and at the interval the southern hemisphere side led 14-0.

Habana wasted no time in the second half getting off the mark courtesy of a Fourie du Preez grubber kick.

 Bismarck du Plessis crossed shortly after this to pick up the bonus point before Francois Louw scored his only try of the evening.

Habana then scored two in quick succession as he powered through the sorry looking USA defensive line and Louw added a second to put them more than 50 points clear of the opposition.

Jesse Kriel and Lwazi Mvovo were the only other try scorers of the afternoo as the Springboks looked comfortable, but there was to be no record breaking for Habana on this occasion.

He'll just have to make do with matching the record and South Africa finish Pool B winners.
