Ireland centre Jackie Shiels admits she and her team-mates on the bench could savour the last 20 minutes of victory over Scotland - and another Six Nations crown.

Like their male counterparts, the Irish Women's team also secured their championship in Scotland yesterday afternoon.

They needed to win by 27 points in order to overhaul France's points advantage, but in the end a relentless performance saw Ireland steam-roll Scotland 73-3 and secure back-to-back titles in style.

"We were clinical in the first 20 minutes," Shiels, who was replaced after 57 minutes, told Newstalk's Breakfast this morning. "We got the try and took some penalties when probably we know we could have went for the lineout and the maul ... but we went for points just to be safe.

"We got to the 20, 27 points, and from then we kicked on a bit more. Only at the last 20 minutes, we knew at that point they weren't coming back. At that point, some of us on the bench - we could relax.

"But the girls on the pitch just kept going; I think we even scored a try in the 80th minute, so the girls were going to the very end."

She added: "We knew going into the game what we needed to do. I think we were confident after the Welsh game and the England game. We went in with our game-plan and stuck to our game-plan which was to play our rugby."
