2004 Wimbledon champion and defending French Open champion Maria Sharapova has been beaten by Germany's Angelique Kerber in their fourth round tie today.

The Russian lost out in an epic three set battle that lasted over two and an half hours on centre court.

Kerber will now go on to face Canadian Eugenie Bouchard in the quarter finals.
