Lions captain Sam Warburton says he is happy to get the tour up-and-running as the tourists laboured to a 13-7 win over the New Zealand Provincial Barbarians in the opening tour match.

It was the Welshman's first game after recovering from a knee injury and despite the sluggish display, he was happy to get the tour off to a winning start.

"At least we got some footage now to work on 'D' (defence), work on some attack stuff," he said, adding: "Obviously it wasn't perfect but it's the first building block.

"So, we'll get together now, support the other guys who are playing on Wednesday and try and keep improving every week."

The Lions head to Auckland now for their second match of the tour against the Auckland Blues at Eden Park.
