As things stand, the biggest Rugby World Cup shock has to be what was witnessed on Saturday as minnows Japan defeated the mighty South Africa in a thrilling pool match.

Unless New Zealand were to be overturned by the likes of Namibia or Georgia some day, the Springboks result is unlikely to ever be matched.

But it's not the first result to raise eyebrows in the tournament's history.

Wales have suffered their fair share of surprise defeats, losing to Western Samoa in 1991 and Samoa in 1999.

But their most recent shock result came at the hands of Fiji in 2007, just two short years after the Welsh had won a Six Nations Grand Slam and less than a year after they repeated the feat in 2008.

The 38-34 defeat to Fiji in Nantes, France back in 2007 saw Wales eliminated from that year's World Cup in a match which saw the more-fancied nation fall short after a fight-back:
