Rhys Ruddock has revealed that Peter O'Mahony put his own injury anguish to one side to welcome him into the Ireland squad as his replacement.

Leinster flanker Ruddock was called up to the squad after it was confirmed that his Munster counterpart has been ruled out of the rest of the Rugby World Cup with an injury sustained in Sunday's win over France.

Speaking to Off The Ball's Nathan Murphy today, Ruddock told him that O'Mahony had put his own bad news to one side to make a point of welcoming his replacement on board.

"Actually, the mark of the man, the night he got the injury he texted me to say he was delighted to hear I was coming over and that just shows what a quality bloke he is on top of a quality player. It would  be the last thing on most people's mind but [he's] an absolute gent, so I had a conversation with him. I'm wishing him a speedy recovery," he said.
