Dundalk have continued their impressive start to the new Airtricity League season.

Brian Gartland's early header and two second half goals from David McMillan were enough to hand the defending champions a 3-0 win over St Patrick's Athletic at Oriel Park.

Pats' case was not helped by a second half red card for Killian Brennan when the score was still 1-0.

Out west, Galway United ended Drogheda's perfect start to the season after an early goal from Enda Curran was enough to earn the Tribesmen a 1-0 win, despite losing Sam Oji to a 25th minute red card.

It finished scoreless at the Tallaght Stadium where the much vaunted Shamrock Rovers and Cork City sides have cancelled each other out.

In the First Division, Finn Harps beat ten-man Waterford United 2-0 at the RSC.

Athlone Town came away from UCD with a 2-1 victory against a side which also suffered a sending off.

Meanwhile, Shelbourne were 1-0 winners over their hosts, Cabinteely United thanks to a Philly Hughes penalty on the half hour mark.
